The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) sixth assessment report provides new estimates of the chances of crossing the global warming level of 1.5°C in the next decades, and finds that unless there are immediate, rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting warming to close to 1.5°C or even 2°C will be beyond reach. Today the whole Humanity has atleast one common urgent project to deal with and which is to control Global warming majorly under SDG 13 (Climate action) but other SDG Goals cant be ignored too. Although SDG Goals 2030 has a promise to create a better world but it is highly unpredictable and will have many unexpected challenges and twists to reach the Goals. We are already facing the unpredictability every year. So few of the the common Value to make it happen is the need of the hour for entire Humanity and nobody can ignore it. The 2 most important which I can think of are Collaborating as Team on the basis of common Purpose and being ready to respond for unexpected change which we are already facing. These are also the part of Values from Agile way of working in Agile Manifesto for software development.

New Generation like Millenials and Genz have huge responsibility to save the world and they cant and should not afford to waste the time in to something they are not passionate about as they need to think about bigger picture and contribute to the problems which exists. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership. So next question is how do we understand and cultivate what purpose one would like to contribute for to make the SDG target successful. The Purpose test from GeniusU by Roger Hamilton is brilliantly crafted for every individual to understand their purpose aligned to SDG and then collaborate to create a bigger impact. Please get your Purpose from Purpose test.

Agile Project framework like Scrum claims to improve productivity by 400% to 800% as per Jeff Sutherland in his book SCRUM. On the other hand researches claim that Purpose-driven employees are 125-225% more productive (Bain & Company, 2017) and For every 10k employees who have a sense purpose and meaning, there ate $82M in productivity gains and 19.5k fewer days of paid leave per year (BetterUp, 2019). If Both(Scrum and Purpose) can individually boost the productivity to this high level then imagine what we can do with integration of both. There is a theory given by Daniel Pink in his book Drive about three elements for intrinsic Motivation as below.

Autonomy – It is the need to direct your own life and work. To be fully motivated, you must be able to control what you do, when you do it, and who you do it with
Mastery – It is the desire to improve. If you are motivated by mastery, you’ll likely see your potential as being unlimited, and you’ll constantly seek to improve your skills through learning and practice
Purpose – Those who find purpose in the work they do unlock the highest level of motivational potential. Daniel Pink says that joining a cause that is “bigger” than yourself drives the deepest motivation possible. Purpose in this context means waking up in the morning and going to work without grumbling

Agile Manifesto clearly focus on Autonomy and Mastery from Pink’s elements of Motivation but if every organization defines and craft the Purpose to solve the bigger problem and also strategize to align employees purpose with Organizational purpose then it will have much bigger impact. There will be integration of all the elements to have huge internal motivation and when that happens, Agility comes naturally. This means that if the entire Humanity collaborate as per the purpose (GeniusU Test) they have and the contribution which they want to make then together we can a massive change for better. Lets find out the Purpose to collaborate for the common cause and be ready for any unexpected circumstances. Be Purposefully Agile !!!
